Are You Stressed? If You are, Come on in...

How can We Get Rid of Stress?

“You must learn to let go. Release the stress. You were never in control anyway.”

Nobody in this world can avoid getting stressed since it is ubiquitous in every aspect of our lives. Causes of stress vary according to the situations, but when you imagine about the word stress, you normally imagine about bad ideas. Tons of people often use the terminology, “stress”. However, when you ask them for the exact definition, they usually think for a minute and speak vaguely with some big words. Somebody might say “homework always makes me stressed out”, others might be saying “because of him/ her, I am very stressed.” These examples indicate that stress reaction means to have the anxiety, depression, and restlessness. However, a well-known Canadian scientist, Hans Selye, had a research about this field. He divided the topic into two portions. He figured out that stress does not only have negative facets (distress) but also some positive traits called eustress. The word, stress, that we generally use is about distress, so today in this blog, I would like to explain more about the distress, more than eustress.

Likewise, according to the literal definition of stress, it does not have to be necessarily bad. Stress induces a living organism to sensitively and in no time respond to changes. Stress makes you distinguish if you have to fight or flight from an emergency situation. For instance, imagine you are in the incident of walking in a desert. All at once, a long and skinny object moves quickly. At this present moment, you will be tensed and into the bargain, your heart beat would increase geometrically as well. Considering you are in that situation, regardless of what the object is, you will be in a sensitive circumstance. Furthermore, for better or worse, you will be able to decide whether you fight or flight. To sum up, stress would be a survival technique for us in some measure.

We all know that distress is harmful to every field of human lives. Distress decreases and damages our immune system, therefore, people with more stressful moments in their lives would more likely to get serious diseases. There is a famous saying for distress, which is, “stress is the cause of all kinds of illnesses” which implies how harmful to have to stress in your life. According to a research conducted by a renowned research group, Nelson Korea, people who have less amount of stress tend to repair wounds easily. There were two different groups of test subjects, the first group of people had great lives, less homework, and delicious food. On the other hand, the second group had a lot of homework and not very good food for a week. Then they had a small scar on their hands. Throughout a week of the research, the scientists have figured out that the first group had faster repair time of the wound than the other. This proves that the mental illness would also influence our physical health.

Everyone in this world is in pursuit of the happy life on behalf of the stressful and wasted life. For certain the key to this lifelong conundrum is to be apt for relieving stress. Many students in our class relieve their stress count on physical activities, watching television programs and resting on their friends by talking. Some other tips which psychologists use in order to get over and recover from your stressful lives. After reading this blog, I am looking forward to listening to a phrase “dear stress, let’s break up” from you guys. First of all, try to get used to organizing your environment and buy necessary materials. When your head is all messed up with what you are currently working on, psychologists prefer to concentrate on the activity and get better with their moods, too. Above all, when cleaning dirty and disorganized your belongings, you can also organize and classify some useless things in your brain.

Second, for 30 minutes a day, spend your time doing things that you like to do. For example, Amir Nasiri in our class, who is one of the best students, spends at least 30 minutes a day to relax by watching his favourite TV shows or playing games. After finishing all the work assigned, he would be able to have a great way to cope with his stress that he got from the work. Likewise, Amir, psychologists spend 30 minutes of their time in a day to relieve their stress by doing whatever they want to do. Third, try having some exercise time. In this modernized world, a lot of people end up not having enough exercising time for the excuse for busy and tired mundane days. In the past, people used to spend their leisure time going out and exercise which resulted in relieving stress in a natural way. Therefore, grab some time to set on physical movements would be a great method to have relaxation.

Lastly, cope with stress differently depending on the types of stress. If you distinguish stress well, you will be able to reduce it efficiently. In the first place, you should identify if the stress is either ‘solvable stress’ or ‘not solvable stress’. If you can solve that stress you have to solve for your life by utilizing all the possible methods. One the other hand, if you can’t for the life of me, you have to comply, accommodate and admit it instead of thinking of it for your life.

It is important not getting stress throughout your lives but since people cannot avoid getting stress, it is more pivotal for us to know the techniques to get over and rid of distress. I would like to ask a question about this conundrum. Don’t you think you are neglecting and leaving your stress alone, due to busy mundane days and a considerable amount of homework? But, if you are being trivial of stress, you will have more serious problems. So, I strongly recommend you to spend some time following the methods that I’ve given you above. I would like to put an end to this blog with four simple words that summarize my blog.

Coping with stress:

  1. Support yourself

  2. Relaxation
